Do you have a creative streak in you? Then we’re sure you must have considered a career that uses this skill of yours to the fullest. But how many times have you been told by well-meaning friends and family that creativity and money seldom go together? While this may be true for some occupations in the creative field, there are also quite a few well-paying ones.
Here’s a look at some creative careers that pay over $50,000 per year.
- Art Directors
Median 2010 pay = $80,630 per year
What could be more creative than planning an entire art design, overlooking layouts, and managing a team of many creative professionals? Working for magazines, newspapers, product packaging and movie and television productions, these professionals oversee the entire visual style of any project they work on.
- Fashion Designers
Median 2010 pay = $64,530 per year
Designing clothes, footwear or accessories, selecting materials for your designs and seeing the result of your creativity in a fashion show – what could be more satisfying for a creative mind? But there a caveat to becoming a fashion designer too; that is a very slow estimated growth in jobs for fashion designers.
Median 2010 pay = $72,550 per year
Who said creativity is restricted to drawings on paper and clothes alone? These professionals are always showcasing what all could be done in the creative arena through buildings and structures. They consult with clients, prepare drawings, visit construction sites, to ensure that the design they made for a particular structure is done correctly. And they work quite a lot too – most architects work over 50 hours a week.
- Producers and Directors
Median 2010 pay = $68,440 per year
Movies, theatres, TV soaps – who doesn’t like them? But there’s a lot going on behind the scenes to make something that you’ll thoroughly enjoy, and we’ve got to give it to producers and directors for using their creative streaks to come up with interesting performing arts productions, TV shows and motion pictures to entertain us. But this is one stressful occupation, whereby you’re always under stress to firstly, finish an assignment, and secondly, to find the next assignment.
- Advertising, Promotions and Marketing Managers
Median 2010 pay = $108,260 per year
The advertisements and TV commercials that lure you into buying a particular product have not just been made out of the blue. A lot of planning and management of entire campaigns by advertising, promotions and marketing managers goes behind the promotion of even a single product. A lot of team work and collaboration with art directors, sales team and financial managers is also involved.
- Multimedia Artists and Animators
Median 2010 pay = $58,510 per year
Don’t we all love animated movies and those funny figures in computer games? Imagine how much fun it must be to create something like that, and that’s what multimedia artists and animators do. From 2D to 3D, these professionals create animations and visual effects for TV, video games, and other media.
Did you consider a career in either of the above occupations? Now that you know it could be quite well-paying, it would be worth giving one of these a thought.
